This article describes a functional verification for a micro processor. This microprocessor is a bus master module in an RF transceiver chip. As a master module in AMBA bussystem, this micro processor is in charge of adjusting the RF transceiver chip in differentworking environments to ensure the chip works properly.Based on VMM, this article introduces a functional verification strategy for this microprocessor. A hierarchical verification architecture which is recommend by VMM is utilized tobuild the verification testbench. A variety of techniques are applied to this testbench, such astransaction-level verification, assertion verification, coverage-driven verification. Thereusability and automation of this testbench is great improved by some specific optimization.It is proved that this kind of methodology is useful to improve the efficiency of verificationtestbench for processor chips. The final verification result is up to the industry standard,which provides adequate safeguards for the chip tapeout.Testbench described in this article is easy to transplant to other processors by theapplication of VMM. It is very flexible and reusable. This verification method is of greatreference value for processor verification.
