Analysis On Experience Of Regional Feature And Old City Renewal Design

In recent years, with the rapid development of urban construction in China, existing city structure and scale of most famous historic and cultural city cannot adapt to the functional requirement of modern city. "Mass-Demolishing and Mass-Construction" in city as well as foreign cultures have huge impact on people's mind. Urban construction is facing assimilation and having identity crisis. Under the background of global economic integration and cultural convergence, it is of great importance and urgency to protect and inherit regional feature and city characteristic. Especially China is in the phase of rapid construction and cultural development, it becomes an extremely urgent issue that how to renew famous historical and cultural town while maintaining regional feature of the city.This paper mainly analyzes and summarizes theoretical research and case study of old city renewal both home and abroad, and concludes primal problems of old city renewal of small-town in China, which perform in the following ways:1. Loss of historical culture and lack of protection consciousness; 2. Blundering mentality makes people pursue economic benefit while destroying ecological and cultural landscape; 3.Singleness of reform pattern, lack of systematicness and strategy; 4.Lag behind of infrastructure, bad returns on investment lead to teem of unfinished projects.Based on the problems mentioned above, the writer develops the discussion combining theory and practice. First, the writer will elaborate characteristic, current situation and existing problems of famous historical and cultural town and related old city renewal theory, summarize the main feature of old city renewal combined with research of this topic. Furthermore, the writer will expound design principle, project background, regional feature, place situation, objective and content of old city renewal project in Doumen Town, a famous historical and cultural town in Doumen District, Zhuhai and then mainly analyze the design phase of old city renewal project in Doumen Town. Last, from the aspects of theoretical level, the writer will summarize the topic from "renew principle—protect and reform countermeasure-operation mechanism—arouse protection consciousness of citizens—establish certain standard" and put forward several principles and measures which can be implemented in maintaining regional feature and designing old city renewal in small town of China.Therefore, in the process of current urban construction of China, the restoration of historic & cultural cities entails reserving regional characteristics and adopting individualized design. Specifically speaking, it should comply with the following principles. (1) Valuing and preserving the architectural detail and decoration, which are the vehicles of regional characteristics:(2) maintaining the intactness of the cities' cross section and vertical section, allowing coexistence of old and new, and adopting the concept of collage city; (3) creating the cultural environment flexibly and inheriting the intangible traditions, including life styles and human landscapes. Pertaining to those principles, the following measures need to be taken. (1) adopting active protection and restoration countermeasures; (2) establishing multi-lateral cooperation-based restoration mechanism; (3) stimulating local residents' motivation to protect the cultural architecture; (4) promulgating related norms and standards.
