Mechanized mining technology with great mining height in China have been promoting in many mines, because of increasing the mining height, serious rib spalling of coal wall will increase, which will affect the safety of workers and the normal safely production. So in this paper, we will use the deflection theory of elasticity to study the mechanism of rib and obtain the position of rib spalling under normal circumstances taken at the 0.522 times mining height or the interface between coal and roof. Make use of limit equilibrium theory with MISES norms to analysis the formula of plastic zone of coal. Indirectly obtained by the formula of plastic zone rib spalling have relations with a number of factors, such as:mining height, coal friction, coal cohesion, stress concentration factor, friction of the interface between coal and roof or floor and the support resistance etc. Then use software UDEC simulation of mining height, mining depth, working resistance, tip-to-face distance, coal friction and friction of the interface between coal and roof etc on the impact of rib. By comparing summary the relations between them; Finally, on the basis of previous research put forward the control measures for rib spalling.
