City Landscape In The Internet Age

Currently, the breakthrough point of the functional analysis on internet media frequently starts from media technology and communication features that limited to its inherent functional analysis, this study tried to break through the limitations to take social expectations on the functions of internet media. Owing to thus, from the fields of cities where internet practices, from the social surrounding of urbanization process where public acknowledges internet to analyze the social functions and action mechanism which belong to internet media in urbanization field.To the most principal aspect, via urban space scene, urban living scene and urban folk paradigm that are mediated by internet media, this study tries to reveal the internet functions and action mechanism which are hided. To the aspect of urban space scene, with the capacity of space-production, internet fictitiously produces and reconstructs urban space through representation mechanism. To the aspect of urban living scene, with the capacity of constructing urban living condition, internet constructs the connotation of modernization to urban living which is opposite to traditional urban routine of each day through the mechanism of changing habits. To the aspect of urban folk paradigm, with the capacity of separating powers, internet reassigns social powers through the mechanism of adjusting. Furthermore, this paper integrates internet media function in the process of social transformation as"the function of adjusting social changes", divided into"the function of producing social resource","the function of distributing social rights","the function of cooperating in social procedure", and"the function of shaping social individuals"; extracts its mechanism of action as"functional expectations——fulfill"mechanism, Social changes has formed a number of functional expectations on internet media, the desired response forming the social functions and mechanism of internet media.Through the above analysis, this article argued that there are some public's expectations to the internet functions with the paradoxes and difficulties from the process of social transformation. Via reproducing social resource, reassigning social powers, integrating social system performing, and reshaping social individuals, internet media adjusts the surviving environment for social individuals and provides fields and approaches for adapting, on the process of fulfillment to achieve development.
