In recent several years, there has been an increasing interest in laser-diode pumped all-solid-state lasers because such lasers can be widely used in the fields of military affairs, industry, medicines and so on. As a relatively new laser medium, Nd:GdVO4 has the same crystal configuration as the Nd:YVO4,, both have the advantage of large emission cross and absorption coefficient, linear polarization output. In addition, Nd:GdVO4 has higher thermal conductivity (11.7Wm-1K-1) in crystal axis direction <110> than Nd:YVO4 (5.4Wm-1K-1) and Nd:YAG (11.1Wm-1K-1), which make it adapt to high-power pump. Laser crystals have different characteristic along different direction because of the different parameter along different direction. So the incision direction should be considered when we talk about the laser crystal. The a-cut Nd:GdVO4 has been well researched, and comprehensive laser characteristics of the crystal have been get. But the laser performance of the c-cut Nd:GdVO4 crystal has been known little.In my study, we analyze the c-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser experimentally and theoretically. Using fiber-coupled laser-diode as the pump source and AO modulator, Cr4+:YAG and GaAs saturable absorbers as Q-switches, respectively, the c-cut Nd:GdVQ4 laser with wavelength 1.06μm and c-cut Nd:GdVO4/KTP green laser with wavelength 0.53μm are both realized. Rate equations are the efficient tools to describe performs of the both lasers. Comparing the c-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser with the a-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser in the same condition, we get the excellent characteristics of c-cut Nd:GdVO4 crystal as laser medium in this paper.The main contents of this dissertation include: 1.
