Resonant cavity, coupler and splitter are the most important passive microwave devices. Period structures operating in microwave bandwidth are called microwave photonic crystal which can produce photonic band gap (PBG). Applying the photonic band gap to resonant cavity can fabricate a new type resonant cavity. On the other side, the request of microwave communicating system becomes more and more critical to the performance of microwave passive device including coupler, splitter.In this thesis, the basic theory of the passive microwave device has been analyzed. Then novel characters are explored and investigated. I design two couplers and a splitter according to the engineering. The main contents are as follows:1. The effects and potential application of photonic crystal resonant cavity are explored. The photonic crystal resonant cavities operating at mode TM 010 are investigated in detail.2. The theory and design of coupler is investigated in detail. Popular designing way of CAD is explored. The effect of Photonic Crystal on the performance to coupler is simulated. Two types of couplers are fabricated and tested.3. The theory and design of micro strip splitter is investigated too. Popular designing way of CAD is explored. A two way splitter is fabricated and tested.
