The development of information technology improves the advancement of chain retailing enterprise, and the degree of information application directly influences the profit of it. The traditional management information systems, aiming at on-line transaction processing applications, can't meet the requirements of modern enterprises any longer. On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) is a technology to solve these problems mentioned above, which makes decision-makers change their emphases from on-line transaction processing (OLTP) to OLAP; Using OLAP, decision-makers can grasp useful information and hold the trend of market in time.This paper studies some fundamental theory including the correlative concepts of OLAP, the methods of multidimensional analysis and the storage structure of data cube, compares some mainstream analysis tools and Third-party tools of OLAP and summarizes their traits.Using these OLAP theory as references, this paper mainly discusses that how to construct an OLAP platform in chain retailing enterprises, and proposes a system project based on B/S structure: First, discusses how to use existing resources to build multidimensional dataset; then, develops an OLAP front exhibition tool on the MS SQL Server Analysis Services platform for common business workers to analyze commercial data.For some key problems during designation and implementation: the revelation of data cube, the transfer of the user's operations into MDX language and the data show of user analysis, this paper puts forward corresponding solutions.Finally, according to this project, we build a practical business analysis platform for a specific chain retailing enterprise, which provide users with the flexibility view data from different perspectives, meets the needs of the analysis system of the chain retailing enterprise.
