Nowadays, with great development of information technology, it is easy to collect large numbers of data but hard to process them. Rich collection of data rises requests for new technology and automatic tools that helps to turn vast data to knowledge. Coming forth in the eighties of 20th century, data mining has become one of the most active and exciting fields of database study.Data mining technology concerns multi-subjects and congregates the research results of AL model identification ^ database and computer study. Data mining is a newly-established frontier subject that is being used extensively. Its future application is bright.Based on the Knowledge Discovery in Database, this paper introduces the concepts of KDD and data mining, presents a research into technical approach and fields of application of data mining and gives some anticipate about the future development of data mining. Then, this paper studies the pre-process step of data mining, because the bad environment of industrial field makes it important to process the data collected from the industrial field before picking up models from these data. Description of mining association rules is then given, which is followed by Apriori algorithms and DHP algorithms, both of the algorithms are simulated. Aiming at the temporal feather of industrial process, this paper discusses the time-series. By cluster then classify, a new classification method for time-series is given which uses weighted Euclidean distance as the dimension of difference between two subjects. In this method, instances are clustered to build up the classification model which is then used to classify unknown subjects. Finally, an approach of rotary kiln control system using data mining is introduced. Helpful conclusions are drawn through data mining, with which a rotary kiln control system is designed. The control system achieved favorable performance and was of great benefit to the plant.
