With the development of Chinese auto market, a good quality vehicle navigation system is considered to be more important. Because of the hardware limitations and the rapid urbanization development, the GPS Vehicle navigation products are often complained about the poor quality of the route calculating and the inconvenient map updating. MongoDB is a database based on distributed file storage with cloud storage technology. The navigation system is designed and developed based on MongoDB. The map updating and route calculating are executed on the server in order to reduce the pressure of the client, which can greatly reduce the entire time of route calculating and improve the user experience.Firstly, current situation of GPS vehicle navigation and problems the navigation market facing now are discussed, pointing out the advantages of the navigation system based on MongoDB and the necessity of its development. Then the main functions and the core processes including route calculating, road searching are analyzed. Furthermore, the distributed architecture of the navigation system is analyzed. And the key subsystems such as calculation engine, management of the electronic map data are designed and implemented in detail. Especially, attention is paid to the design of key sub-systems such as the auto sharding, replication and distributed structure based on MongoDB. Finally, the system’s maintainability and scalability are also discussed.
