Research On The Meaning Of News Society

Social time and space is capable of participating in social structure changes, ratheran unlimited expansion of natural time and space. It is mainly reflected in the newstext and news production process. This paper analyzed77pieces of food securityreport text that published on People’s Daily in2013, and found several reportingstrategies for constructing social time and space, such as creating a harmoniouspublic opinion atmosphere in a special period, expanding the time span to enrich thenews background, mixing time cues up to soften hard news, balanced coverage offoreign events, strengthening social status on media, and expanding topic space tomaintain setting new agendas.Resulting from journalism administration and reporting rights, editors andreporters adopted reporting strategies to present social time and space. During theprocess of news production, the social time and space also have an impact onjournalism administration and reporting rights. Through my observation innewsroom of People’s Daily, I found journalists’ reporting standards influenced byworking time and space, mental space, social status, and social context. The bloomof new media pushed the idea of journalism administration paying more attention towhat common people care, to a certain extent, expanding the traditional mediadiscourse space.The news practice cannot work without social time and space, as it is not only thetext material, but also having influence on news production. Another way of thinkingto deconstruct news practice is the meaning of researching social time and space injournalism.
