'The Social Responsibility of Media' is a popular topic in the field of journalism and communication. But in China,'The Social responsibility theory of the press', which directly linked with the Social Responsibility of Media, has been regarded as one of those important viewpoints in journalism theories of western bourgeois for a long time. In fact, the Social Responsibility has never been the core issue that the Party and State require the Chinese Media to follow. With the deepening reform of the economic and political system in China and also according to Hu Jintao's speech on the World Media Summit in October 2009, where he mentioned that the media should take on its own social responsibility, so 'Social Responsibility' should become the 'key word' for China's media management and operation. In this thesis, the significance and reason of reinforcing the Social Responsibility of Media will be analyzed based on the previous studies, the viewpoints of the Party's Media Management Department and how the Social Responsibility being reinforced in the journalistic practices in China. Through the comparisons with the 'Social Responsibility Theory of the press' and with the combination of how the Media Social Responsibility has been carried out under the current journalistic practices in China. This thesis will attempt to give a thorough analysis on the past, present and future of the Social Responsibility in journalistic practices and also submit suggestions on how to better the achievement of social responsibility under the current journalistic practices in China.
