Individual career is an important focus of individual issues. In the west, under the second modernity, the individual becomes the active factor to organize own existence and life, and transforms the social order into the reflective self creation to shape an individual’s self career. "Self career" is individual self shaping of life, including work and family life. It is a way of life that people want to seek. It is formed under the joint action of and individual subjective choice and objective life cycle in the certain structural conditions. In this article I use qualitative research method, to investigate the work life history of expatriate staff, in order to understand the process of the development of individualization in contemporary China.Expatriate staff is the foreign affairs personnel of the Chinese Multi-National Corporation engaging in business activities outside the territory of China. They are highly qualified talents of higher education. They work and live in a multi cultural environment. They have a stronger self-consciousness to shape their career.Life course does not completely refer to the biological process of the individual from life to death, but the event itself. Individual life time is social. When make choices at the important life time, the individual will show the individual value orientation.In this article the personnel of diplomatic career is seen as a whole life course, divided into three parts, choosing a job, working abroad, and career interruption. In shaping the course of self career, expatriate staffs show their subjectivity in the interaction with others in the range of family and public space, through the process of self-expression of autonomy, emotional life, desire appeal and so on.In the first choice of overseas work the unmarried people pay more attention to self feeling. While the married to achieve family goals, at the same time, pay more attention to the pursuit of self. In the interaction between home and abroad, the family of expatriate staff created a more equal, negotiation, trust and interactive relationship, for the individual to provide a reasonable expression of the individual demands of space. Due to the presence of not available, the personnel is to use public resources in the process of family interaction. In the public space, individuals are more willing to express their personal desires and personal feelings, while in the use of public resources for the self life of service, more emphasis on the balance of rights and obligations. Career interruptions is that the expatriate staff independently revisit and plan their self career under the influence of individual mental, physical, social and other factors, according to their own wealth, human and social resources, under certain structural conditions.Post-80s and post-90s pay attention to self expression and have the courage to pursue self to shape their self career as an independent individual. For them, the family is no longer the individual pursuit of self life constraints, but the support of the individual resources and platforms. These young individuals in the use of resources to shape their career, at the same time, maintain social sensitivity. As a new force of society, they are gradually becoming a truly independent, autonomous and independent individual.
