| Ooka shohei is one of the most prominent representative figure of the post-war writers in Japan. His works covers range of subjects and claims brilliant artistic merits. He had translated some literature works of French into Japanese and done some research on them. Along with his special war experiences of which reflected later in his works they featured in both true to the life of Japanese society as well as subtle tasre of western literature. As his masterpiece of work, the novel The lady of Musasino has established him as the remarkable writer in the post-war literary arena.Based on The lady of Musashino, the thesis analyzed the defeated post-war Japanese social background, the influence of western literature and above all, the female characters by The lady of Musashino. Our readers may soberly realize the fatal tragedy of the female characters during the transforming period after the war. It also compared the impact of the cultural clash between the east and west on the females so as to trace back to its social causes and significance of the discrepancy. Indeed, the thesis also demonstrates, in a completely new perspective, the two female characters michiko and toyoko as the typical characters of that period of time. |
