Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) is an important composer in the romantic time of German and Austria. His music creations have inherited the essence of classicism music. Especially in some large-scale musical forms, for instance the creation of symphony and chamber music. We can see that he was continuing the vanguard along Beethoven and Schoenberg. His creations involve nearly all of the musical styles except the opera. Brahms advocated classical music, so he transcribed composers'works of early Italy and the German by himself. It was the romanticism time, and because of the deep love and the research of classical works, he found more balanced methods to manifest the classical music characteristic in his music. Therefore he is regarded as a conservative traditional composer in the 19th century, when the romanticism music was the mainstream environment. But this appraisal is not comprehensive. Now, in the Western music educational world Brahms is no longer regarded as a conservatism composer, but it is agreed that his innovations have the same important status with Wagner's achievements in the second half of the 19th century. Both of them had important influence to the 20th century music. In fact, in some works of Brahms, especially some piano works of the early time, we can feel the romanticism mood obviously. This article attempts to research the three piano sonata of Brahms'early time, in order to examine his early creation environment and the creation motive by the brand-new angle of view. And appraise the Brahms'early creation by the fundamental research. This article is mainly divided into three parts to launch the elaboration:The first chapter Germany of the 19th century and the art growth of Brahms This part aims at elaborating the culture historical perspective of Germany in the 19th century, with carrying on compiles, comparing, and choosing the different historical data. At the same time, it elaborates the music growth course of Brahms, so that carries on the reasonable localization to his three piano sonata in the history. The second chapter The Brahms piano sonata brimming in the romanticism It analyzes and compares three sonatas of Brahms by concrete technique. Thus it summaries the creation characteristic, creation idea and music style of Brahms'sonata. The third chapter The brief commentary to Brahms creation style characteristic of his early time piano sonataThe last part reviews the history, and comparing, analyzing the composers of the same time as Brahms. It intends to prove the innovation in Brahms'early music, and the unique romanticism of his music. Finally his appraisals of the later generation people will be added. And most importantly, in the broadcasting station course in 1933, for commemorating the anniversary of Brahms'100th birthday, Schoenberg pointed out that Brahms was a great reformer for the first time. Schoenberg's appraisal was not only established as a new school at that time, but also broke the image of Brahms in peoples'mind thoroughly. What the most important is that he raised the upsurge to examine Brahms'music in the Western music educational world.
