Chinese army literature enjoys a centuries-old historical tradition. There had been a large number of poems on army for centuries in China. Especially, the Frontier Poems of Tang Dynasty had already born the anti-war ingredient which was very primitive and simply at that time.The Republic of China(1911-1949) period witnessed the appearance of modern anti-war fictions. The Trilogy of Anti-war(1929-1930) by Sun, Xizhen was the magnum opus among these works. However, this creation style was drowned by the coming Anti-Japanese War.After People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, the army literature creation was always chained with Revolution Realism. Therefore, the hero characters had been excessively elevated into"God".The above-mentioned tendency had been overthrown by writers in the new age after Culture Revolution(1966-1976). With the help of Counterattack War against Vietnam, these writers tried to emphasize the hero character's human nature in stead of their heroship.In 1990s, army literature historically fell into bottom because of the great economic and social changes. In the new century, army literature began to rise up again with successes by several writers in market and academy. Among these writers, Shi, zhongshan, Xu, guixiang and Du, liang are the outstanding representatives.Xu, guixiang is a famous army writer in recent years. He has written over 20 novelette and five river novels, most of which are in army theme. Sky of the history, Xu's most successful work, has won the Maodun Literature Awards in 2005. In this thesis, Xu's works and his creation style would be completely and comprehensively researched.
