1. In recent years, the calligraphy of seal character from the Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty has aroused great attention and interests in the circles of historical commentary and creation of calligraphy. These seal characters are often random-styled and with decorative implications. What's more, a thorough study of these works also makes them acquire higher opinions.During that era in Korean history, Cui Zhiyuan's 'The Stele of Master Zhenjian of the Shuangxi Temple' also exhibits the inclination of random.2. Cui Zhiyuan went to Tang Dynasty at the time when people were zealous for knowledge. After passing an imperial examination, Cui began to roam about in Luoyang and other cities. As he wrote poems and articles, he earnestly studied the famous handwritings and the seal character in the epitaphs all over the country, from which he acquired the understandings of the ancient prose and the enthusiasm for creation. The style of Cui's seal character is similar to the one in the Tang Dynasty's epitaphs, which leads to the conclusion that he consulted the handwriting ancient prose system, which came into being through Warring States bamboo slips before the lesser seal character took shape. After fully understanding and skillfully employing the seal character of the handwriting ancient prose system, Cui exhibited his unique personality through his aesthetic standard.3. Based on the random style among the people, Cui Zhiyuan's 'The Stele of Master Zhenjian of the Shuangxi Temple' continued to develop. With its unique style, it didn't imitated Li Yangbing's standard lesser seal character which was very popular at that time. Cui's seal character changed the standard form of lesser seal character; with the character distance the same as the line distance, the pace within every character varies all the time, and the angles and thickness of the character lines diversify.Cui's seal character in the tablet is cut in relief, but there are no boundary lines. As a result, different characters and lines are in particular disorder and echo each other. His space arrangement has no rules, thus having a natural contrast, but the whole outline is regular.4. The Korean history of calligraphy always developed under the influence of Chinese calligraphy. Cui Zhiyuan's seal character is an important work with its unique spirit and personality in the background of Tang's culture and calligraphy. With a kind of natural beauty, Cui's nine-character seal character exhibits a decorative and lively implication. This is a very important part of the whole history of Korean calligraphy.
