The present thesis focuses on new applications of PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) in microfluidics technology, including PDMS modified with nano particles as hot embossing mold,a novel fabrication method of polymer microneedles , and an application of PDMS microvalve in concentration gradient chip.1. The present thesis summarizes some processing methods of polymer microfluid biochip, introduces the process of hot embossing as well as the method for making hot embossing molds, and then proposes a method for making hot embossing mold using PDMS mold modified by nano particles to fabricate micro-channel chips.2. The present thesis reviews achievements in the technologies and applications of MEMS-based microneedles. A new fabrication method of solid polymer microneedles array which combines the bulk silicon process and UV-LIGA process was proposed. In this method, good replication of microstructures and easily release of PDMS are applied.3. The properities of Low young's modulus and easy deformation of PDMS were used in designing the PDMS microvalve, which is applied in a controllable concentration gradient chip. Focusing on the property of PDMS, the research has developed some low-cost, simple, nonconventional microfabrication technological methods for making important microfluidic chip and devices based on craft features of the laboratory of MNRI SJTU.
