Electric Power Steering System (EPS) is a new type steering system, which can save energy, improve vehicle safety, and benefit environment protection. It's a new-high-tech that follows modern vehicle development topic closely. EPS is much superior to hydraulic power steering system. It will be the inevitable developing direction for automobile power steering.This paper fully shows the characteristic that combination of automobile engineering, electromechanic engineering and embedded system. From the general planning and the control methods of software and hardware, EPS was studied deeply in this paper. First of all, the general planning was established which was based on the demand analysis of EPS. Sencond, the software and hardware were developed. The hardware was an integration control circuit, the fuction of which including: signals collection, low band fliter, PWM singal output, H-Bridge circuit, clutch control and etc. And then, following the modularization idea, the software was developed with C51 computer language. The software system includes the data processing, digital filter, PID algorithm routine, target current computation and etc. For improving the EPS performance, the non-linear control curve was realized in the software system. Third, for testing the performance of this system, the test bench was designed and the synthesis testing flatform was integrated. Finally, this paper discusses the reliability and security to introduce the problem of EPS's engineering realization.
