| In the time of globalization, the characteristics of Suzhou that was a water-city in history gradually disappeared today. For this phenomenon, the paper based on the research on system theory, regulates the city's historic order of the evolution of water systerm pattern, sorts of existing water resources, and trys to analysis the image factors by learning from Kevin Lynch's methods. By studying how to combine the water element with the image factors, bringing the water resources into city image system through the planning guidance, the paper wants to achieve the goal of reshaping water city image.The paper contains six parts. Exordium explains the background of topic selection, concepts definition and research methods. Starting from the interpretation of the city image's theory, chapter two proposes the use of city image's research methods to study Suzhou. Chapter three mainly deals with the evolution of ancient Suzhou's water system pattern according to different periods, extracts characteristics and image factors of water city during the period with distinct features. Chapter four based on the three editions of urban master planning discusses contemporary water system pattern of Suzhou in different stages, reveals the characteristics of water system pattern, and extracts image factors through investigation. Chapter five compares the old and new image factors, studys the changes, proposes the control framework, and probes into the principle of remodeling water city image.The conclusion inducts the changing of Suzhou city image in general, emphasizes the necessity of inheriting and developing water city system for building Suzhou characteristics. At last, the paper points out that the innovation sparkle is applying the city image theory on reshaping city image. |
