| Sanitary landfill is one of the main ways for garbage disposal in China. Thepollutants in the leachate generated in the process of landfill, if not treated properly,will cause serious pollution on water, air and soil around. Leachate from landfill hasthe characteristics of complex in composition and high in pollutant concentrations.Most treatment methods for leachate from landfill in abroad or domestic are combinedtreatment with municipal wastewater or handling separately in the garbage fills fieldof burying.In this paper, a landfill leachate from Tianjin was selected, and the feasibility ofputting the leachate into a municipal wastewater and treating them together wasstudied. The operation of wastewater treatment plant with a landfill leachate inputtinghas been monitored for7months. Samples at different points of the wastewatertreatment plant were taken. BOD, COD, SS, NH3-N, TN and TP were measured. Thepollutant concentrations of the leachate, the raw wastewater of treatment plant and themixture of both were compared.The results showed that because landfill leachate was a kind of wastewater witha high concentration, the ratio of leachate to raw wastewater could not be too high. Inthis study, the quantity ratio of leachate to raw wastewater was0.07%. After mixedwith the raw wastewater, concentrations of COD and SS in the mixture were1.4timesas high as those of original wastewater, and the concentration of NH3-N was1.1timesas high as that of original wastewater. For mixed wastewater, BOD/COD was in therange of0.345-0.423, which indicated biodegradability of the mixture. BOD/TN wasin the range of3.576-3.899, which indicated nitrogen removal well. BOD/TP was inthe range of30-43, which showed phosphorus removal easily. In conclusion, puttingsuitable amount of landfill leachate into municipal wastewater and treating themtogether were feasible.Putting the landfill leachate into a wastewater treatment plant and treating themtogether would increase the difficulty in operation and management. The activity ofthe sludge, mass balance and operation cost would change. The research results willprovide a valuable reference for stable operation of wastewater treatment plant withlandfill leachate inputting. |
