The ecological environment on Qinghai-tibet Plateau region is fragile, especially inpermafrost regions. If roads are constructed here, various ecological negative effects willoccur and much pressure will be brought to the environment along the roads. This paper, based on the reconstruction project after Yushu earthquake and3S technology, itconducts a study on the relationship between the road and the natural environment in thepermafrost region, eastern Qinghai-tibet Plateau, through G214highway.With the help of GPS, RS and GIS technology, and GPS point-to-point informationobtained from the ground observation, classification diagram of vegetation ecosystem inthe permafrost region along G214highway are planned through ENVI and ArcGIS. Inaddition, statistical analysis on the vegetation distribution in different ranges will bedone by making use of powerful spatial analysis function of ArcGIS. Finally, based onlandscape ecology theory and FRAGSTATS, the author extracts different landscapeindexes and concludes that road construction has much influence on vegetationecosystem.According to the research results about road construction’s effect on vegetationeco-environment, structure characteristics of road engineering, engineering constructionand operation conditions in permafrost region, the paper proposes some measures toprotect frozen soil, to reduce the vegetation damage and to recover surface vegetationecosystem during the engineering construction and operation phase.
