Currently, multi-core technology is widely used in processor field. SOPC is a new technology in embedded system field. NIOS II soft-core technology based on SOPC technology is being increasingly widely used. It allows integrating multiple NIOS II soft-cores in a single FPGA to constitute a multi-core system. At present, research and application in this area is not universal. Therefore, to carry out the research and application based on the NIOS II multi-core technology can effectively expand SOPC technology's application field. It has much practical significance.Artificial neural network technology is a hotspot in intelligent information processing field. Recently, the hardware implementation of artificial neural network is mainly via simulating the algorithm of artificial neural network with a general single-core processor. This method is unable to fully take advantage of the parallel computing and distributed storage characteristics of artificial neural network. To solve this problem, this paper uses NIOS II multi-core technology to study hardware implementations of artificial neural network. This method will offer new ideas and references for further study and application of artificial neural network.Firstly, the concepts and development status of multi-core technology, SOPC technology, NIOS II soft-core technology, communication among multi-cores and Hopfield network are introduced in the paper; Secondly, the paper studied the mechanism of communication among NIOS II multi-core, The ways using interrupt and query to realize NIOS II multi-core communication are emphasized; Finally, the two communication methods above are adopted to the hardware implementation of Hopfield network, which is used for digital number identification. The effectiveness and feasibility of multi-core communication method and its application in hardware implementation of the artificial neural network are proved and practiced in the paper.
