At present, our country is under a situation of an energy shortage, so that from every coal mining enterprises growing development and utilization of coal resources, due to neglect the safety in production, coal mine methane explosion always happen, account for more than half of coal mine accidents, the concentration of CH4 and O2 to reach explosive limits and the presence of fire points are the two main physical reasons, which seriously affect the coal mine safety production and workers lives. Monitoring of the distribution of coal mine gas concentration real-time and accurately on the protection of safety is very important. Therefore, coal gas detection technology research attracts more and more people's attention ,for a long time, scientists from various countries are working hard on the gas detection technology, a number of gas concentration measurement methods, the infrared spectral technology is one of currently effective way of harmful gases detection methods.The paper describes the background, the nature of the methane, and introduces its detection methods, background and areas of application. This paper focuses on the overall thought of the design infrared detection system, weak signal detection techniques and design software and hardware detection system, how to apply the ATMEGA16 chip for micro controller unit, to complete the data collection, processing to determine, data display and transmission focus of a series of functions were described and analyzed. As the characteristic of most equipment is not available for data transfer, the paper also meet the underground mine, focusing on RS485 bus mode is elaborated upon and the RBF neural network method is used to carry on the temperature compensation, improves the accuracy of measurement ,which has achieved the ideal effect.
