The biometric feature recognition is a kind of technology that takes advantages of the human intrinsic physiological features or behavioral features to verify the personal identity through computers and it has drawn high attentions in the academy with its unique advantages in recent years. Palm-print recognition recognizes personal identities through the valid palm information since palm-print is unique and unchanged all over the life. Compared with finger print, palm-print not only has a lager zone but also contains abundant texture information. Thus, the palm-print can be used as an effective method to recognize personal identities.To achieve an effective recognition system based on the palm-prints, the key problem that how to acquire palm-print information should be studied and solved. Currently, the scanner is commonly used to sample the palm-print. Beijing Jiaotong University designs the palm-print sampling equipment based on the scanner, Hong Kong polytechnic university designs the optical construction to the palm-print sampling and sample palm-prints by the sampling card. Also, there are still some other institutions use digital camera to sample palm-prints.This paper aims at studying the existing palm-print image sampling equipment to find their defects and proposes a new kind of sampling equipment. It conceives the palm-print sampling equipment and designs it using DSP as its core after studying on the existing equipment according to the defects. The equipment includes the mechanical construction, circle light source as well as its sampling circuit. The sampling unit is designed according to the shape of sampling zone. For the sake of excellent images, the equipment designs the circle light source by LED which plays an important role in sampling. The equipment also takes advantage of Philips' video decoder SAA7113H to change the analogous signal into the digital signal that could be easily dealt with and uses the TI's TMS320VC5509A DSP as its processor to finish the sampling task. In order to store and process large amount of data, SDRAM, as the storage of image, is extended too.This paper first introduces the whole design of the equipment and presents the technological details of every part as well as the debug of the whole. Experiments show that images sampled by this equipment possess a good effect to recognition.
