As a new kind of network computing platform, Grid provides a mechanism of sharing and use of a variety of resources, which can combine the heterogeneous, dynamic, geographically distributed computing resources into a virtual computing systems in order to obtain the ideal the quality of service. With the further research of Grid and development of Grid infrastructure, more and more powerful computing and collaborative Grid applications that require tremendous resources are constructed. Many applications are more and more complicated which are constrained by temporal and resource relationship. Grid workflow can conveniently construct, execute, manage and monitor grid applications, and automate grid applications with great efficiency.Due to the dynamism, distribution, heterogeneity and autonomy of grid applications, the conventional workflow technology can't effectively solve the relative problems of grid environment. According to characteristics of grid resources and grid applications, the thesis studies the grid workflow architecture, grid workflow process model, organization and resource model, workflow definition methods, grid workflow middleware technology, workflow engine architecture and process control technology.According to the practical need and the grid services technology, the thesis designs and constructs an application example of resource co-workflow based on the grid environment. The thesis explains the modeling scheme of system in detail, puts forward emphatically the organization and resource model management and grid resource service model, designs the method of process definition based on XML and workflow engine, and introduces the working procedure, invoking mode, components of the engine and the method of extending of workflow engine. The engine could manage the flow of the work, the change of the state, the process of the flow data and the delegation of the business activities. To extend their needs, the clients just need to do a few developments based on the API supported by the engine. It reduces the workload and enhances the flexibility of the system, from which the robustness and the extendibility of the system will be benefited. Meanwhile, it is an essential architectural supports for the reconfiguration and upgrading. The grid workflow system of the thesis has been tested and operated in the manufacturing grid example with good effects in the independent innovation ability, digital equipment development and production efficiency of the manufacturing industry.
