Distributed automobilism simulator is an application of combining distributed virtual reality with automobilism simulator,and it is becoming one of the hot topics, in recent years.As the most important component of automobilism simulator,visual simulation system has been largely improved the quality of visual simulation by adopting advanced three-dimensioned modeling technology,visual simulation technology,graphics technology and virtual reality technology.While the research of real-time special effects technology,especially natural simulation,is very important for the training of automobilism simulator.Since the natural elements is of complex physical background and apparent stochastic traits,the research of its simulation remains a lot of problems to be resolved,especially in the field of real-time simulation.Considering the development of programmable Graphic Processing Unit(GPU),natural elements simulation will be in a new phase.Based on the introduction of automoblism simulator and its natural elements' state-of-the-art research,the meaning of the natural elements simulation to the automoblism simulator was demonstrated within the dissertation.The three dimensional modeling software 3D Studio MAX and three dimensional open source engine OpenSceneGraph(OSG)were used as the developing tools for the automoblism simulator,considering the background of the related research projects. Further more,The application of Programmable Graphics Unit and shading language were discussed,specific for the choice of OpenGL Shading Language(GLSL),and the technologies related to OSG.At last,for the special effects realized by particle system,texture mapping,stencil buffer,multi-passes,etc,systematic research was conducted.Then they are integrated into the scene of distributed automobilism simulator successfully,and the real-time interactive editorial special effect modules are also realised.We have researched all steps of real-time special effect technology on automobilism simulator visual system,the main work and innovations are as follows: (1)Precipitation effect was realized by using particle system technology with GPU speedup.Especially,snow effect on the ground was achieved by using dynamic texture mapping technology.And also kinds of optimizing technology were introduced.Lastly the editorial effects including real-time changing particle texture, particle size,particle speed,wind attributes and the like are achieved.(2)The moving grass effect was realized by using GPU speedup and transparent texture mapping technology,including wind modeling and haystack modeling.(3)Fire and smoke effect was realized by using particle system of OSG and delamination theory.Lastly the editorial effects,including real-time changing color, position attributes and the like,are realized.(4)The editorial mirror reflection effect was realized on the platform of OSG, and resolved the plane reflection problem,of which couldn't be achieved better in the scene of automobilism simulator by modeling software.
