In recent years, coherent light source in yellow spectral range(550~600nm) have become interesting for many technical applications in medicine, biology, display, astronomical observation and other fields. The red, green, and blue light can be generated with high conversion efficiency by frequency-doubled diode-pumped Nd:YAG lasers. However, the yellow laser cannot be generated by frequency doubling because of the absence of corresponding fundamental frequency. An effective method of generating the yellow laser is sum-frequency mixing of the two lines of Nd:YAG lasers operating near 1064nm and 1319nm. In this dissertation, the theoretical and experimental researches about all-solid-state CW yellow laser side-pumped have been made.The first part is introduction: The advantages and developments of LD pumped all-solid-state-laser are summarized. Yellow laser's applications and methods to obtain yellow light are classified and the development of LD pumped all-solid-state-lasers in the world is introduced.The second part is the theory of LD pumped continuous-wave laser. Basing on the rate equation of four-level system, the characteristics of threshold, saturated gain, output power and slope efficiency of all-solid-state lasers are introduced. The qualification of simultaneous multiple wavelength laser oscillation and the fundamental principle of sum-frequency-generation are discussed. Furthermore, the characteristics of laser crystal and some sum-frequency-generation crystals are introduced.The third part is experimental researches: A set of LD side-pumped all-solid-state CW yellow laser is designed. By using two Nd:YAG modules T-shape intracavity sum-frequency mixing and a KTP crystal, CW 589nm yellow laser with good beam quality and output stability is obtained and the highest output power is 920mW.
