PON technology has come through APON, EPON and GPON severalphases since eighty years twentieth century. Telecom managers andequipment manufacturers have been managing to exploit protocol andtechnology for PON. Thanks to the high efficiency, the low equivalent costand the ability to support all kinds of access services, the prospects of theGPON system are brightening. Nowadays, the study of GPON system isone of hot topics in the access network's technology. In China, researcheson the GPON system are still underway, and no mature technologies havecome out. Due to the expensive terminal equipments, recently, theapplication of the GPON system is costly. Thus, study the terminalinterfaces is of major immediate significance to promote development ofGPON.In this thesis, we discuss in detail the characteristic of the mediaaccess control protocol, the development and sort of PON. Elaborated theGPON system's characteristic, the principle of work, the merit as well asthe essential technology. This thesis' key point is to the GPON's physicslayer and function module research, as well as the overall scheme and allpart of terminal design. According to G.984 agreement, the GPON's terminal design includes physical layer and the CPU two parts in fact, thisarticle emphatically conducts the research and the design to the physicallayer. Through analyze the GPON system's physical layer agreement andthe key technologies, we advance the design proposal of physical layer'seach function module, include triplexer, continuous receive and bursttransmit module, clock data recovery circuit. This thesis has chosenappropriate chip and carries on the periphery electric circuit, hasmanufactured PCB and proposed the test plan.
