With the rapid development of the national economy and the progress in science andtechnology, transport has become an indispensable and important component of daily lifeand economic construction. Therefore, in the last two to three decades all the countries inthe world have established a well-connected road transportation network. But whatfollowed was the ensuing traffic congestion, environmental pollution, traffic accidents andother issues. Intelligent traffic system is one of the effective ways to solve this problem.In Intelligent traffic system, vehicle location and navigation system is an essential part.Based on embedded system platform and the analysis of the current major softwaredevelopment and infrastructure, a thorough research and design on autonomous vehiclenavigation system is carried out by the view of practical application. At the same time afew key technologies of it are discussed.The main content of this dissertation include:(1) Analysis of the causation of theintelligent transportation system, recalls it in the development of all countries and researchand expounds the status of vehicle navigation system to the intelligent transportationsystem.(2) According to the development of software and hardware, an architecture ofhardware is designed and the development blue print of the software development programis determinated by compared the various methods. (3) Focused on the design of mapdisplay module of vehicle navigation system.The Shape file map format is analysedcompletely and the reading and drawing of this format is achieved.(4) As a key technologiesof vehicle navigation system ,spatial index technology is studied thoroughly and a specialspatial indexing algorithm for muti-lever format map is put forward. (5) The 2D and 2.5Dmap display method is discussed particularly, and 2.5D map display of Shapefile format isactualized initially.
