In January 1, 2002,"Nanjing Zero Distance", a news column of Jiangsu TV city channel, begun to broadcast officially. If we take this as an official sign of the born of People's livelihood journalism, now it has gone through five years. In the past five years, it has experienced the tests of rise, prosperity, confusion and rejuvenation. Carding its development process, we found that professionals and researchers do not reach reasonable and uniform answers on these questions: "what is People's livelihood journalism?" "Will it be replaced by Public journalism?" This situation brought People's livelihood journalism practice into a wrong direction and affected the depth and breadth of its exploration.Based on People's livelihood journalism, qualitative and text research methods, combining Public journalism, this paper makes a comparative analysis. By the introduction of "paradigm" theoretical mode, this paper redefines the People's livelihood journalism: It is a paradigm of news dissemination with Chinese characteristics, which consists of four parts organic combination: the subject of this kind of news is People's livelihood; its position is from civilian perspectives; its value orientation is public consciousness; its reporting pattern based on public discourse. Defined by Paradigm theory, the practice and study on the livelihood journalism can be more accurate and reasonable, and provide scientific guidance to its operations.Secondly, this paper makes a detailed research on the People's livelihood journalism and Public journalism's historical background, the existing situation, strengths and weaknesses, to make an analysis of these two media paradigm's features and contents through considering Chinese actual situation. These two paradigms develop in different conditions and ecological environment. They each have their own merits and shortcomings; they can reinforce each other, rather than replacing mutually. Finally, on the base of study of these two paradigms, we will give innovative, forward-looking and scientific answers to the questions of "Will the People's livelihood journalism Paradigm be replaced by the Public journalism paradigm?" and "What is the further development of these two paradigms in Chinese new era."...
