A novel Display based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPRD) is discussed in the thesis. Compared with the traditional displays, SPRD has its special merits including higher color resolution and contrast, wider color range, faster response and lower power consumption and so on. Thus the SPRD is a promising display and worth studying deeply.First, the display development history is introduced and the merits and demerits of several traditional displays are discussed and compared.Second, SPR effect is delineated and the basic principle of SPRD are discussed in detail which is that the change of the real part of the refractive index of the control layer will bring the change of the resonant wavelength and the change of the image part of the one will bring the change of the resonant intensity where both resonant wavelength and intensity are corresponding to the color and the bright of the display.Third, the simulation of the SPRD by using MATLAB program is given out according to the relative principle.In a word, SPRD is a very promising display although the study on it is at the begging and the work in the thesis is a kind of pre-study about the new display and believed that it will make contribution to the further study.
