As a normal and sensitive sensor, SPR sensor can be applied widely in many fields which can be classified as a prism SPR sensor and an optical fiber SPR sensor according to the different substrates used, and the latter including its detection system (optical fiber SPR detection system) is mainly studied in the thesis.Firstly, the basic concept of surface plasmon wave is introduced and the conditions to excite the surface plasmon resonance on the interface between the metal and the dielectric are described theoretically. Meanwhile, the work principles of both prism and optical fiber SPR sensors are presented, which show the relationships between the refractive index of surrounding material and the sensors'parameters.Secondly, the factors to influence the performance of optical fiber SPR sensors are discussed and subsequently the design of both the sensor and its detection system are delineated.Thirdly, the experiment of the optical fiber SPR detection system studied in detail in which the relationship between the refractive index of surrounding material and the resonant wavelength or the resonant light intensity.Finally, the data obtained from the optical fiber SPR detection system is processed by using certain algorithm in which the character of the noise in the data is analyzed and the influence of the one is reduced.It is believed that the work of the thesis will make contribution to the wider applications of the optical fiber SPR sensors.
