With the development of telecommunication technology, the service of communication will turn to broadband service charactered as high speed IP data and multimedia data which require the optical network based on the technology of DWDM provide larger capacity to transfer information. The larger capacity means more communication channels. This means the power's wavelength range must be wider. So, the widely tunable fiber laser is considered. Pumped by 980nm or 1480nm high power LD, the Erbium has high gain at 1550nm band, which is used as the optical communication. So, the Erbium-doped fiber should be tunable fiber laser's gain media. Newly Bi-EDF has high Erbium doped consistence, its ASE range can cover C band and L band. Using Bi-EDF as the widely tunable fiber laser's gain media could be a best choice. The content of this dissertation is on the research of Wuhan importance technology plan project "Widely tunable fiber laser". The main research contents and results are given as follows: (1) The basic theory of widely tunable fiber laser are detailed. It includes the level structure and the stimulated radiation of Erbium, the tunable optical filter based on the rotation of F-P cavity. (2) Give the design scheme of the widely tunable fiber laser. Introduce the main optical passive device. The design of pump's current driving and temperature controlling circuit is stressed. (3)Use newly Bi-EDF as the gain media, one cavity covers 100nm tuning range. All optical design reduces loss of the cavity.1480nm forward and backward pump can achieve high pump property. (4) According to the contract, A test scheme is studied out. All test results are set out detailed.
