Design And Implementation Of An Instant Messaging System For Maritime Information Platform Based On XMPP

Communication is the essential behavior of human beings in social activities. Communication techonolgies are always the representation of the development of science and techonolgies. Originally, people communicated with mails, afterwards they evolved into telephones and mobilephones, and to nowadays'communication based on Internet.Instant messaging is one of the hottest applications over the Internet, and a large part of our online time is spent with friends on instant messaging. As a very important portal for users to access to Internet, instant messaging system is the highland of competitons among Internet companies. There are a lot of companies who have occupied the market by atrracting the intant messaging users. Therefore, research on instant messaging technology has great theoretical and practical significance.Maritime information technology has been greatly developed in recent years. Several domestic and international companies are currently providing maritime information services. However the maritime information technology is far from mature, there are not international industry standards in this field. Therefore, the research on maritime information system is still on the go.It makes sense to integrate the instant messaging system into the maritime information platform. Firstly, the maritime industry has its unique requirement. Therefore it is rather complicated to transfer such information through common instant messaging systems. Secondly, the integrated instant messaging system can help the user quickly access and share the infomation provided by the maritime information platform.After reading a lot of papers in this field, this paper researched the instant messaging theory and method, thoroughly studied XMPP, Openfire and Gloox techonology. Finally, this paper introduced an instant messaging system solution and described the design and implementation details.
