Design And Implementation Of High Definition Digital TV STB Based On SPHE1510A Chip

With the accelerated promotion of digital TV around the world, digital TV STB (set-top box) has entered more and more families. It has become a full-service terminal supporting multiple functions including multimedia playing, program recording and playback, browsing websites online, video on demand, etc, rather than only receiving digital TV programs. Also, it has had a high definition resolution developed from standard definition, bringing users a brand new multimedia world. Digital TV STB is no longer an unreachable concept; it has become a common and indispensable electronic product in daily life of common people. Today, digital TV has not been widely spread yet; so, the design and implementation of digital TV STB still has practical significance. Meantime, it can also promote the development of multimedia processors.This project is focused on the hardware design, software architecture design of application layer and applications development of the digital TV STB based on Sunplus's SPHE1510A chip.This paper firstly analyzes the standards and key technologies of digital TV transmission as well as the principle and key technologies of STB; then, from the application point of view, detailedly describes the design and implementation of the STB's hardware and software; gives more analysis on some key modules'design and implementation. This paper is focused on the hardware design of STB based on the SPHE1510A chip and the applications development based on SPHE1510A's software platform. The project has developed a clear logical, easy to program software architecture of the application layer, and designed the graphical user interface of STB based on the architecture, and implemented the program search and storage, electronic program guides, personal video recording, multimedia file playback, Internet interactive applications and other functions.The high-definition digital TV STB solution based on the SPHE1510A chip discussed in this paper complies with related international standards, fully meeting the various needs of today's users and taking the lead in the industry. The solution has been implemented and sold in the market, and has got good feedbacks from market.
