Sniper is the main reason for soldier casualties in urban combat. Sniper localization is very important for the reduction of soldier casualties and effective counter-sniper attack.Counter-sniper system can be divided into laser detection, infrared detection and acoustic detection according to the theory. Acoustic detection are widely used for its simple, low cost and accurate location. The sniper rifle will generate muzzle blast and shock wave when it fire, in order to locate the sniper, microphone arrays are used to detect these two signals. The existing methods usually use single microphone array to locate the snipe based on one or two of these two waves, but when the microphone array is small, the error of time difference of arrival is relatively large, and the system is vulnerable to the noise in the environment, so the locate result is inaccurate.This paper did the following two step research works on the basis of summarizing and analyzing the traditional location technology:(1) Proposed sniper localization algorithm based on node interaction. This algorithm uses two microphone arrays to detect muzzle blast and shock wave respectively. The microphone array which detects muzzle blast uses the steepest descent method to compute the information of muzzle blast and solve a approximate position of the sniper that meets some requirements, the other microphone array uses the time of arrival of the shock wave to calculate the propagation direction of the shock wave front. Then, through the information exchange between the microphone arrays, we get the accurate position of the sniper. Through the simulation of this algorithm by MATLAB, we proved it is effective and universal, and analyzed the relationship between the location error and distance of two microphone arrays in the same time.(2) Designed the wireless communication interface between the nodes based on ZigBee. Sniper localization algorithm proposed in this paper mainly based on the interaction of the two nodes and used both nodes'information to locate the sniper. The interaction interface of the nodes is very important if we want to make the algorithm reality. So, the paper designed the wireless communication interface between the nodes based on ZigBee, and analyzed the communication processes of the interaction interface, this work laid a foundation for applying the localization algorithm to the combat.
