| The objective of higher vocational education is to cultivate high-level applied talents with professional skills. In recent years, with the powerful influence of world economic globalization on China, the demand for high quality applied talents is increasing. The contradictions between the current situation of higher vocational English curriculum and educational objectives are sharpening. The research analyzed the curriculum and teaching orientation of higher vocational English deeply through literature study. In combination with related literature, questionnaire and interview, the research found that there were lots of problems in the implementation of the curriculum and teaching of higher vocational English: it lacked a variety of methods in teaching and evaluation, a clear orientation in curriculum objective, and the curriculum contents were outdated. Therefore, it is urgent to reform the curriculum and teaching of higher vocational English, and choosing an appropriate curriculum mode is the key to success. The literature indicated that the KH curriculum oriented to the professional cluster’s requirement of talents application ability. The feature of the KH mode can not only improve the practical application ability of students, but also meet the needs of students’ different professional ability development. It means that this curriculum mode can meet the needs of higher vocational English curriculum and teaching orientation and requirements. The research constructs and explores in practice the higher vocational English curriculum and teaching from the aspects of curriculum objective, contents, teaching methods and evaluation by the mode of KH curriculum. Considering the professional English learning should have certain basic English ability as basis, the research divided the curriculum into two stages: basic English stage and professional English stage. Students will learn basic English in the first semester to cultivate their practical application ability of English. In the second semester, students will learn professional English to cultivate their professional application ability of English. In the basic English stage, three different clusters use the same English material(21st Century Practical College English). In the professional English stage, clusters use three different English books: Information Technology English, Geomatics English and Mechatronics English. The research constructs and explores in practice the higher vocational English KH curriculum and teaching from the aspects of curriculum objective, contents, teaching methods and evaluation according to the higher vocational English curriculum and teaching orientation. Through two years of teaching practice, the research shows that students are more interested in this curriculum and teaching mode, the English application ability of students improved the PRETCO passing rate of students increased. What’s more, the students ‘professional application ability of English improved significantly. All these improvements make the cultivation of higher vocational English talents more adapt to the demand of the society, the students are more competitive in their career in the future.Due to the complexity of the research, the limitations of the research level, the research has a lot to improve and there is still a lot of work to do. |
