Reading And Misreading Of Photographic Images

In the modern era, significance of image-reading is self-evident since photograph communication accompanies with every moment of our life. Guiding effect of images on readers and how images make sense in reading are discussed starting from features of image itself. Through referring to the concept of misreading in literature and analysis associated with actual situations, elements which could lead to misreading are summarized and listed. On that basis reasons of misreading occurred in image reading are investigated from four perspectives of photographers, viewers, reading context and features of photography itself. In the end a brief overview of the application of misreading in photography in the contemporary art follows and no specific explanation of images is given since greater degree of openness in photography interpretation is required and artists should totally leave it to readers themselves.
