Iris recognition technology , a new kind of biological characteristic recognition technology, is one of the hottest research spot recently. Iris is especially suitable for recognition because of its special properties: the texture of iris is unique for different eye, the characteristic is stable, iris texture is difficult to fake and the acquisition of iris image is not invasive, so iris recognition technology is considered as the most popular technology in the future.A personal identification system based on iris pattern is composed of iris image acquisition, image preprocessing, feature extraction, and matching. Iris image for this paper is provided by Institute of Automation Chinese Academy of Sciences. Iris feature extraction is based on texture analysis using 2D log Gabor filtering. This dissertation subdivided into seven major sections is organized as follows:Chapter 1, firstly the background of this dissertation is introduced briefly, then the research's goal and content are put forward. Finally a brief introduction to the dissertation's architecture is presented.Chapter2, issues in the design and implementation of a system for iris recognition including image acquisition, image preprocessing, feature extraction and pattern matching are explained, synchronal we give a survey of existing methods for iris recognition.Chapter3, the typical methods of extracting iris texture's feature are analyzed.Chapter4, firstly we focus on the log Gabor wavelet's performance.
