Alexandrite laser is one of the superior tunable solid-lasers. Its tunable wave-region is over 100nm (701 812nm)with the characteristics of simple manufacture and compact structure; pulse with high energy can be obtained through Q-switch for longer life (260us)particles in upper levelIn this paper, tunable and Q-switch mechanism and principle of working material alexandrite (Cr3+ : BeAl204 )is firstly expatiated and analyzed .The experiment of tenability (ET) and experiment of Q-switch (EQ) is proved feasible. On this basis, the ETs with three-birefringent filter (BF) and two-prism device are finished successfully accompanied with ideal result : the former region is 724-781nm ; the latter's is 723 797nm , as proved the characteristics in reference that output increases continuously accompanied with enhancement of temperature. . Four-BF is designed to expand tunable region, for further application .And parameters of ET with blazing-grating are theoretically ascertained quantitatively . In EQ electrooptical crystal KD*p is mainly employed . After a series of experiments, primary parameters of output are theoretically achivevd approximately gradually. Its output,after second and third harmonic generation, will be appliedin great space; and its function in the area of anti-laser and anti-CCD detection is not neglectable.Emphasizing on experiment-technology in paper, theoretical analysis is walidated byexperimental result, Satisfactory conclusion is obtained.
