| This paper focuses on the social role of modem advertisements in the West. To be specific, the author lays bare the nature of advertisement and its ideological function by viewing it in the perspective of commodity production of the capitalist economic system. The theoretical guidance of the paper is Marxist political economics historical materialism. The author抯 criticism is based on structuralism, semiotics, anthropology and humanitarianism.
