Long Journey Of Spirit On The Themes Of Zhang Chengzhi's Novels

Zhang Chengzhi is an influential writer with profundity and personality in the history of the contemporary Chinese citerature. In 1978, he stepped into the literary world with his Why does the rider sing?, which won the first Natiowide Short Story Award in the same year. After this ,he created a number of excellent works, including Arik Football, theBlack steed, Rivers of the North, History of the Soul, Golden Pastures.In this paper, the themes of zhang's works are devided into four stages: maternal love, idealism, heroism and religious belief. Through the historical retrospect, this paper will analyze the uniqueness and explore the cause of these themes.There are four chapters in this paper except the preface and conclusion. The introduction part includes an overview of the current research situation on zhangchengzhi and reason of choosing this topic, as well as the topic significance. Also, the innovation of this paper is presented.The first chapter makes a historical retrospect on the theme of maternal love, analyzes the connotation and cause of this theme. Author's emotional appeals require the theme of maternal love.The second chapter touches the theme of idealism. The historical Retrospect, connotation of zhang's"red guard"idealism, creative attribution are presented. The theme of idealism is author's inevitable choice to fight against spiritual emptiness.The third chapter inlcudes the historical retrospect, connotation and creative attribution of heroism. The theme of heroism is a need of author's self-assurance.As the former three chapters, the fourth chapter is devoted to the historical retrospect, connotation and creative attribution of the theme of riligious belief. This theme is the ultimate choice of spiritual value after author's penetration into mother-family.
