The Current Situation Of Human Beings Performed In The "Political Pants"

Inspired by Golding's talks about his works and the awarding words of Nobel Prize given by Swedish Academy,the author of this thesis is aiming to make a further research from the political perspective,associating with the international situation of the twentieth century, especially the realities of Second World War.Thus the thesis refutes the popular moral viewpoint that"Lord of the Flies"shows"the innate evil of human".It holds that the struggle between Ralph and Jack is an echo to the vigorous war of the adult world in the twentieth century.Ralph and Jack, represents democracy and totalitarianism respectively.The personal weakness and management defects of the democratic leader is taken full advantage by the latter who seizes power and sets up the totalitarian politics which determines by violent ways and his individual will.Jack's victory over Ralph alludes to the fact that Hitler defeated Chamberlain and the invincibility of fascist camp on the battlefield at the beginning of World War II ,which gives a warning to the world that if democracy and civilization be not consolidated and improved, totalitarianism may still come out again.Piggy, an asthmatic, is a metaphor of modern science's weakness and incompetence in political struggle, when it is put into the complex and delicate relationships between politics and science.In addition,Golding criticizes the instrumental reason as Piggy believes in so much as to lost the emotion and compassion.Here the author appeals to emotions of love and the spiritual balance.Simon who has been considered as a religious figure with epilepsy is fragile and weak in the power struggles and always drifting outside the regime,suffering cold reception in the democratic camp and at the same time has sharp contradictories with barbaric cult breeding from Jack's totalitarianism, when his tragedy is put into the relationships between politics and religion.During World War II, the role of Christianity in the war played little, and it did nothing to make the two fighting sides to give up the conquering desire that had been ignited, which highlighted Golding's profound realization and worries about the religious status and situation in political struggle. The two fires on the island reflects the relationship between man and nature."Eden on fire"is a profound implication of the earth involved in the world wars.Golding creates a different kind of"Eve"with poetic strokes from mythological and allegorical perspective, which denies some scholars'believe that it is women's lacking in the island that causes the boys to do evils. It is deduced from the dialogues between"lord of the flies"and Simon that"lord of the flies"is the king of the forest and"the soul of nature",which refutes the idea of some scholars who regarded"lord of the flies"as a symbol of"lord of evil".It also gives a warning to human beings through the mouth of"lord of the flies"that if we are insisting on doing things on will to the planet, we will be punished with the natural disasters, the outcome of which may be a horrible ending of human history.The significance of the novel dose not only rest on the universality of human society;but it also extends to the vast universe.Golding stands high and seems to overlook the earth and describes the universe in both his novel and the award acceptance speech, in which the great and small of human beings are all taken in a sight.Current situation of human beings is performing in the"political pants".And only through perfect democracy and the boundless love can the human community"approach steadily into a rational world without the threat of war".
