A Cultural Linguistics Characteristic Analysis Of Geographical Names Of Leagues And Flags In Inner Mongolia

A geographical name, as a component part of lexical of language, consists of sound,form and meaning.The existence and record of any geographical name cannot be independent of written language.Because of the close relationship between geographical name and linguistics,the theories and methods of linguistics is used by many scholars who are interested in the investigation and study of the origin of a geographical name.Featured by their complex structure and linguistic diversity,the geographical names in Inner Mongolia reflect to a certain extent the local politics,economy,society,history and geographic style.Therefore,the geographical name can be regarded as the living fossil of Inner Mongolia.The study objects of this paper are the present geographical names of Leagues (including prefecture-level cities) and Flags (including urban districts and cities at county level) in Inner Mongolia. On the basis of successful study experiences of processors, this paper will from cultural linguistics point of view to make an in-depth study of present geographical names in Inner Mongolia, involving the knowledge of linguistics, geography, history, historical geography, ethnology, local records, folklore, and archives. This paper will investigate the meaning, elaborate the synchronic feature, development, evolution and distribution, explore the social property, and bring cultural connotations of the geographical names to light. The author hopes to offer certain scientific basis with this paper to other scholars for their further study in the geographical names in Inner Mongolia.
