Zhou Qufei's Ling Wai Dai Da is one of the more valuable historical texts of the Southern Song dynasty. A record of political, economic, military, geographic, custom, and ethnic minority matters of Guangxi in the Southern Song dynasty. This encyclopedia-like book has 10 volumes. It provides invaluable historical value for research history of Song dynasty and local history in Guangxi, also provides invaluable records of ancient countries in the South China Sea, South and West Asia, East and North Africa regions. This article tries to make a comprehensive study of Ling Wai Dai Da, highlight the historical value of it.This article discusses Ling Wai Dai Da in three aspects. First, we make a textual research of Zhou Qufei's official career, as well as the historical background and compilation characteristics of Ling Wai Dai Da by reviewing relevant literature, to make up for the lack research of Zhou's, official career and his Ling Wai Dai Da. Secondary, we describe the relationship between Ling Wai Dai Da and Gui Hai Yu Heng Zhi & Zhu Fan Zhi. A comparison of related contents indicates that Ling Wai Dai da is influenced by Gui Hai Yu Heng Zhi, and inspires Zhu Fan Zhi in both format and content. Finally, we analyze the historical value of Ling Wai Dai Da. The book's literature value is illustrated when we compare the contents of Wai Guo Men in Ling Wai DaiDa and the Wai Guo Zhuan in Songshi, Fan Yi in Song Hui Yao Ji Gao. Ling Wai Dai Da fills important gaps in historical records, describing the geography, the unique Bian Shuai Men, Fa Zhi Men, Cai Ji Men, customs, and indigenous products of Guangxi.
