| With the plurality and internationalization of English, English is transcreated by different users with different socio-cultural backgrounds and integrated with other languages and cultures of the different speakers. Therefore different linguistic conventions and cultural traditions might be transplanted into different World Englishes. On the background of plurality and internationalization of English, China English is developing and attracting many scholars' interest both home and abroad.China English refers to one variety of English used by the speakers with Chinese linguistic and cultural background. It has the Chinese linguistic and cultural characteristics. It can reach the aim of communication and can be accepted by English speakers with other linguistic and cultural backgrounds.Kachru has divided the English-speaking countries into three broad types, which he symbolizes by placing them in three concentric circles, the inner circle, the outer or extended circle, and the expanding circle. These three circles represent the types of spread, the patterns of acquisition, and the functional allocation of English in diverse cultural contexts.Based on Kachru's Theory of Three Concentric Circles this thesis focuses on the research of China English in EFL teaching and learning.Firstly there is the diachronic and synchronic description of the linguistic and cultural characteristics of China English at lexical level. And then there is the survey and analysis of China English in EFL teaching and learning. In this part, firstly there are investigations; one is about the interpersonal function of English among college students and the other is to illustrate the students' attitudes towards English Standard and China English. Next, there is a survey of students' ability to express Chinese thoughts in English. After that an innovative teaching model is used to expose students to China English and find out Chinese features in English themselves.By the description of linguistic and cultural characteristics of China English and the survey of China English in EFL teaching and learning, there are some theoretical and pedagogical implications. Theoretically, China English is one essential component of World Englishes and is the reasonable and necessary existing variety of English, which proves and affirms Kachru's Theory of Three Concentric Circles. Pedagogically, a new teaching model is introduced. That is, in the course of English teaching, the teacher should correct students' attitudes towards the function of China English, cultivate students' proper outlook on Chinese culture and foreign cultures, and introduce Chinese culture into the course to cultivate students' ability to express Chinese culture properly and precisely in intercultural communication. |
