The Chinese language has its own characteristics that are different from the Indo-European languages. Chinese morphemes are flexible, relatively independent and correspondent with Chinese characters. However, morpheme teaching has long been ignored in TCFL. Based on the traits of Chinese morpheme and its psychological foundation, this paper discusses the necessity and possibility of establishing a better Chinese morpheme teaching. The result of experiments carried out for this paper shows: that 1) the method of using morpheme analysis in vocabulary teaching is more efficient than that of treating each Chinese word as a whole without teaching the morphemes it contains, and 2)learners who were taught Chinese words by making use of morpheme analysis have better achievements than those who were taught in the traditional method without introducing the morphemes in each word in reading, recognizing and understanding Chinese words. In addition, they are able to successfully guess the meaning of a new word from understanding the meanings of the morphemes in it.
