The academy in different vassal states of Han Dynasty developed distinctive characteristics. He Jian State, which is ruled by Vassal Xian Liu De, embraced mainly Confucianism. The state made great contributions to the preservation and organization of Confucian classics and became the center of Confucianism study. The He Jian Academia promoted the non-utilitarian Confucian Classics and deeply influenced the development and direction of the school of Confucian Classics. This article sources from historical and literary works to study the forming, flourishing and the declining stages, as well as the achievements of He Jian Academy. There are five sections.The fist section explains achievements of He Jian Academy and gives introduction to the living of Vassal Xian Liu De, the contents and influences of He Jian Academy, and the regional features of the academia. This section provides basis for the study on He Jian Academy.The second section provides reasons for the formation of He Jian academy in aspects of social environment, geographical location and individual scholars.The third section brings together related recordings from historical and literary works to re-experience the prosperity of Confucianism at the time. The study focuses on the Confucian classics studied by He Jian Academy and the proving of scholars travelled and studied in He Jian.The fourth section gives insights for the declining of He Jian Academy.The last section concludes the influence of He Jian academy on Confucian Classics study of the time and following periods to emphasize the great meanings of the academy.
