The concept "Intertextuality" ("Intertextualite" in French) , was originated by Julia Kristeva in the 1960s'. In the background of post-structuralism literature theory, she gave birth to the concept by reconstructing creatively the text-dialogue theory which was created by Mikhail Bakhtine who based it on the philosophical idea of Intersub Jectivity.Roland Barthes expounded and explicated the concept greatly, which made the research extend from Intertextuality to text-relation. Michael Riffaterre made it a formal concept in acceptance theory. Gerard Genette did research in narrow sense and brought forward "five genres" theory, which turned Intertextuality from linguistics into literature. Hence numbers of western scholars did the research from many aspects such as fodder classfication, ideology, psychology, sociology etc. From 1990s', the Intertextuality theory and method have gone much beyond literature. It was broadly used by western scholars to comment and practise in many social and cultual fields, and bacame a symbol term in current culture research.Numbers of domestic scholars, such as Qin Haiying, Chen Yongguo, Huang Nianran, Cheng Xilin etc, have translated, recommended, depicted and commented the concept from many aspects, which enlightened us most. Many more scholars looked Intertextuality as a new literature method, unscrambling the text from lingual environment in a certain culture. But up to now, there is no domestic monograph on it.The paper conducts investigation into relationships between the Intertextuality and the Intersubjectivity and the Intertexte in order to highlight the definition of the Intertextuality on the cource of the historic development. Finally, the paper trace the process of the Intertextuality in the light of the contemporary culture to open out it's tendency. This paper includes three parts: the first chapter deals with the source of this theory that analysing the cause of development from Structuralism to Deconstructionism and Intersubjectivity to Intertextuality. The second chapter deals with the definition of the Intertextuality on the cource of the historic progress, and introduce some important theorists. The third chapter deals with the process of the Intertextuality in the light of the contemporary culture. The three parts are independent from each other while at the same time interwoven. The discussion goes from philosophical speculation, to literary theories and eventually to sociological and cultural investigation , which forms a progressive development, making the paper an organic unity.
