On The Ironic Art And Its Deep Meaning Of

Having existed since ancient times in the western theory of literary criticism, the artistic form of "irony" reflects prominently in "Old Tales Retold" . It makes the text possess more than conflicting elements in language as well as in structure, which gives the text a unique style. The application of irony comes from the writer' s world outlook, and the "revolting desperation" centered world outlook reflects the writer* s nihilistic attitude towards existence. The world outlook comes from the combined action of the writer' s unique intension in spirit and the objective social elements .Due to the world outlook, Lu Xun knew the nihilism of existence profoundly, while he would not sink into degradation. Being determined, Lu Xun fought against all kinds of old influences, old customs and time worn cultures.Firstly, this paper defines the concept of irony, introduces its origination, development and meaning in various level, and sets up the background of theory for writing. Secondly, the paper deeply inquires the irony of the fiction form using structuralism linguistics and poetics, analyses the types and forms of irony and its impact and sense to this paper. Finally, using the "irony" world outlook of existentialism philosophy, this paper excavates the writer' s mental structure from the irony characteristic of the fiction form and tries to explain the reason of forming irony world view. In a word, through writing this paper, the author ultimately want to reveal the unique and profound feeling and acquaintance to history and reality, tradition and modern which hide in the unique artistic aesthetic form of Lu Xun under special historical background, present the complexity and contradiction lying in the world of literature and spirit ofLu Xun who had the status and consciousness of " the midst matter during the history " .
